After years of anticipation, the 5G network has finally arrived in the UK and the race is on between the operators for its widespread rollout. EE was the first off the mark and switched on their network in areas of London, Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester on the 30th May. Vodafone is in hot pursuit, launching on the 3rd July, and 02 and Three will be playing catchup later this year.

 

5G is set to change the face of mobile communications because until now, all mobile broadband networks have been designed to meet the needs of people. 5G, on the other hand, has been designed with machines in mind, offering low-latency and high-efficiency data transfer speeds. Indeed, it will be the underpinning technology behind AI-driven services such as driverless cars, Smart Cities, robots and IoT.

With this in mind, what exactly does the 5G rollout mean from an end user perspective and how should a building owner or integrator be planning for 5G coverage in the short to medium term?

Office software: WPS Office Free

As per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for the Microsoft Office Specialist MOS is expected to see a 3% growth in opportunities from 2014 to 2024.

What are Shielded Ethernet Cables?

Currently, the use of high bandwidth applications has been on the rise, and network systems have started venturing into factory environments which have called for the use of shielded cables. In this new installation sector, the cable is used in areas with high electromagnetic interference (EMI). Even with improved ability to reject noise and handle gigabit Ethernet, these cables will not function properly in areas where there is high EMI if not properly shielded. A shielded cable will help in these high EMI installations ensuring safe and efficient data transfer.

These are the two basic types of shielded ethernet cables. STP cables with an overall generic shield whereas S/STP cables have a shield for each pair and an overall outer shield. The Shield of STP cables can either be a foil or a braid, but for additional strength, some cables can comprise of a foil shield and an outer braid shield.

STP and FTP

Cables which have an overall foil are known as FTP, whereas those with a braid are known as STP. STP is the generic name given to all shielded cables. At times, there arises confusion where FTP cables are assumed to be unshielded or that they are significantly different in terms of performance. In practice, the STP and FTP cables can be used interchangeably, and there is no apparent difference in their performance.

 

S/STP

The second type of cable is one that has each of the individual pair shielded and then there is an overall outer shield. This type of cable is referred to as S/STP. The purpose of having an inner shield is to ensure that there is no internal cross-talk between the pairs. This will help in ensuring that the cables meet the specifications of the Alien Cross Talk parameter which is significantly difficult to achieve with CAT6a and CAT7 systems. However, Alien Cross Talk is not a requirement when it comes to CAT6, CAT5e, and CATS systems. Additionally, it does not significantly contribute to the overall resilience of the cable when it comes to resisting external RF noise such as the one made at the mains induced spikes. The physical construction comprises of a foil on both the inner and overall outer shield. Additionally, there can be a braid which will improve the cables strength and also simplify the connection to the metal shields which are around the connectors.


What is IT service management?

To ensure sustainable quality of IT services, ITSM establishes a set of practices, or processes, constituting a service management system. There are industrial, national and international standards for IT service management, setting up requirements and good practices for the management system.

 

ITSM is based on a set of principles, such as focusing on value and continual improvement. It is not just a set of processes – it is a cultural mindset to ensure that the desired outcome for the business is achieved. It incorporates principles and practices from various management approaches, such as lean manufacturing, organizational change management, system analysis and risk management.

Network types at a glance

A network is any number of independent computer systems that are interconnected so that data exchange is possible. For this to happen, networked systems must be connected logically in addition to physically. The latter is established by special network protocols, such as TCP (Transmission Control Protocol). Even just two computers connected to each other can be classified as a network.

Networks are set up to transfer data from one system to another, or to share resources, such as servers, databases, and printers on the network. Depending on the size and range of the computer network, you can differentiate between different network dimensions. The most important network types include: 

 

Personal Area Networks (PAN)

Local Area Networks (LAN)

Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN)

Wide Area Networks (WAN)

Global Area Networks (GAN)

The physical connection, which these network types are based on, can be cable-connected or implemented based on wireless technology. Physical communication networks often form the basis for several logical communication networks, so-called virtual private networks (VPNs). These use a common physical transfer medium e.g. a glass fiber cable, when transferring data and are assigned to logically different virtual networks by means of tunneling software.

 

Each type of network was developed for specific areas of application, is based on its own techniques and standards, and brings different advantages and limitations with it.
